Examples of  Persona Recordings playable online are offered as music history, music appreciation, education and demonstrations of Persona Studio's arranging, recording and mastering techniques. All the recordings are completed in house by Stephen Gislason. The music selections and their history are described in the book, Sound of Music.

Steely Dan

Steely Dan is a Grammy-Award winning American jazz rock band. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were the principles. The band recorded six albums in the 1970s that blended jazz, rock, funk, R&B, and pop. Their music is characterized by complex jazz-influenced structures and harmonies and recording studio perfection.

The group toured from 1972 to 1974, but in 1975 retired to studio recording only. Their first U.S. Top 10 album was Pretzel Logic" with the single from the album, 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number -- which went to number 4 on the U.S hit parade.

Fagen and Becker went separate ways  in 1981. They resumed Steely Dan tours in the summers of 1993 and 1994 with new studio releases in 2000: “Two Against Nature” and in 2003's “Everything Must Go”  Becker and Fagen received Honorary Doctor of Music degrees from the Berklee College of Musicin 2001.

Stephen says that he was first introduced to Steely Dan recordings as a good example of  recording art -- excellent mixing and mastering.

Music downloads are delivered from our companion website: Persona Digital Online. Music Downloads are albums, packaged as MP3 files in a zip folder. Download  the zip folder and save.  In Windows, click on the folder and choose the extract all option to unzip the files to your hard drive. A new folder containing the MP3 files will be created. The MP3 files will play on all computers, laptops, notebooks, smart phones, iPods,. iPads, CD and DVD players and all portable music players. Some albums contain liner notes or minibooks as PDF files that introduce the music. Some music recordings and Free Music Downloads are offered to illustrate music history, advance music  education and appreciation. The recordings presented online demonstrate Persona Studio's arranging, recording and mastering techniques. All the recordings are completed in house by Stephen Gislason.
